Reasons to rent: Private sun-lit home with modern amenities and perfect for entertaining.
A wooden fence flanks the entrance to Heinle Hideout, where guests follow a meandering driveway, past the orchard, skirting a cluster of charming red outbuildings, before spying the house behind a curtain of thoughtful landscaping. The front covered porch is softened by a perennial border, while hardscaping, in the form of patios and low stone walls, adds to the overall ambience throughout the grounds.
Drop your gear in the handy mud room, or enter directly into the living room, where the ceiling soars and the space benefits from extra light through the south-facing clerestory windows. The open plan space, with its slate floors, includes a living area with a wood stove, and a kitchen with butcher block counters, a breakfast bar and a view out to the sprawling side lawn. There is a separate dining room which again features a wall of windows with that view, and which opens onto the expansive stone patio.
The spacious master king suite is on the first floor and has an en suite bathroom with tiled walk-in shower, as well as a sauna. The other two queen bedrooms are upstairs, accessed via the cherry wood stairs, and they share a bathroom, again with tiled walk-in shower. There is a sleeping loft with full bed tucked into a cool space along the stairwell, accessible by ladder.
The house is kept toasty through radiant heat (and there is a wonderful wood stove for extra coziness). And in warmer months, the ceiling fans provide a cooling airflow through the house.
The grounds are a wonderland, with a sizable fenced garden with raised beds, and a separate apple, cherry, plum and pear orchard, also fenced. A fire pit is a focal point, and the open air space in one of the red outbuildings features ping pong, darts lit by strings of lights. But the huge bluestone patio overlooking the huge lawn is the real star of the show, and serves as the go-to spot in summer. There is even a built-in gas grill (propane is piped in, so it never runs out) making entertaining a breeze.
