Reason to rent: Bright, contemporary home set in peaceful privacy, in the forest.
Nestled in a forest between undulating hills and a gorge with babbling brook, Huckleberry House is comprised of a lovely cottage and detached studio, perched high on a hill.
Off the entrance, with its Shaker pegs, is the first bedroom, a queen, and adjacent, a full bathroom with claw foot tub, perfect for indulging in a hot soak or bubble bath.
Passing through a glass door, the heart of the home unfolds, with an open-concept living room/dining space/kitchen. The space is bright and cheery, awash in a soothing palette of white and soft grays, and muted colors in the well-appointed kitchen. There is a long dining table by a large window with a view; a perfect setting for feasts or for jigsaws. The modern bluestone fireplace is both an attractive focal point year-round, as well as a magnet for cozying-up in winter.
Sliding glass doors off the kitchen lead to the deck…a perfect spot for BBQs and al fresco dining. Steps away is a bluestone patio and fire pit encircled by Adirondack chairs, where campfire chitchats and the making of s'mores under the strings of lights are a must! When the sun sets and the stars come out, so, too, does the movie projector. Settle into your seat, cuddled up under a blanket and watch a favorite film against the back of the chimney.
The master suite is upstairs and features a cozy king bed and en-suite bathroom with stall shower. With a very large picture window overlooking the front yard, you will feel like you are high up in the trees. Flip the switch to the electric stove for instant ambiance!
For additional guests or added solitude during warmer months, follow the path up behind the house to the detached studio. Here you will find a sweet little nook with its own front porch, cozy queen bed and views of the forest and gorge. Sway in the breeze on the hammock or opt for quiet contemplation and meditative moments in the fern forest. (Please note: there is no bathroom or heater in the studio.)
The house is five minutes from the heart of Margaretville and walking distance to a couple of trailheads. The Dry Brook Ridge Wild Forest marker is only 1,000ft from the house.
Belleayre Mountain and Plattekill Mountain are an easy 20-minute drive.
Hunter Mountain is approximately 45 minutes away.
