Local Sights/Activities/Eateries/Businesses

• There is no doubt but that for many, Hamish & Henry Booksellers lures you in and time ceases to exist. The desire to grab multiple title from their stylishly laid-out shelves and tables and curl up on a cozy sofa there in the shop can be too strong to resist. For a few years they were the only new bookstore in Sullivan County, and could still be. But even if they’re not, surely they’re the best conceived and executed. A real asset to the town. Find their shop on Main St.
•Willow & Brown is to kitchen-y items what Hamish & Henry is to books. So if you need to exercise some retail therapy, you’ll find design-led gifts and good-looking and useful items for your kitchen. Also on Main St.
•There are several antiques stores nearby: In Liberty: Artisans Gallery Antiques, Town & Country, and Ferndale Antiques (just outside Liberty).
• Morgan Outdoors is a true blue camping/hiking shop, with fun bits besides. And the buyer’s taste is terrific, so there are lots of tempting items and good gifts, even for those who just like being outside.

• Peekamoose Restaurant & Tap Room: Dinner at Peekamoose is always a treat. Located in Big Indian, it’s a remarkably beautiful 55 min drive down along the DeBruce Rd to the Frost Valley Rd to rte 28. Go left and it’s about 1 mile on the left. Owners Devin and Marybeth Mills have renovated an old farmhouse into an inspired space of wood, glass and intriguing and playful artwork. The food is simply outstanding (not surprising given their experience at Picholine and Le Bernardin), and they make an effort to use local growers and the freshest ingredients available. Open Thurs-Mon, 4-10pm, (845) 254-6500.
• The Catskill Harvest Market focuses on bringing local produce, cheeses, meat, poultry, baked goods, and even soap to market, all with a wonderful retail flair. You’ll also find an exciting range of gourmet coffees and teas, candy and gift items. Now there’s a cute eatery, where you can nosh on divine sandwiches, etc. On rte 52 between Liberty & White Sulphur Springs.
