Reason to rent: Scenic setting with large swimming pond and panoramic mountain views, 2 miles from Phoenicia.
At Sleepy Pines, panoramic views tower above the property’s crystal clear mountain pond, creating magical vignettes at every turn, be it from any one of the three bedrooms or the multi-level living areas.
The spacious open-concept main level, with local quarry-cut bluestone floors, features a comfortable living room with massive fieldstone fireplace, radiant heat, A/C, full-house generator and a well-stocked chef’s kitchen with Wolf and SubZero appliances. Two sets of sliding doors connect with the wrap-around deck. Adding to the lodge feel of Sleepy Pines is an amazing collection of old African animal heads collected by the owners from fine antique stores around the Hudson Valley.
From the main level, the house expands upward to all 3 bedrooms. Skylights and large windows in all bedrooms and bathrooms flood each space with natural light. A guest room with queen bed and neighboring guest room with two twin beds share a hall bath with walk-in shower. The master en-suite with king-size bed has a jetted sunken tub/shower combination. Just off the bedroom are sliding glass doors that bring you to a small balcony terrace overlooking the front yard, a perfect spot from which to greet the day.
The lower level is the chill zone, which has a bit of something for everyone: a regulation-sized (nine foot) pool table, a cozy TV/living area with a sleek Malm fireplace, and a wet bar area with fridge. There is also a half bath on this level. Sliding glass doors frame the stunning landscape and offer entrée to the back yard.
The real highlight though is the gorgeous pond, over an acre in size, with a rocky bottom and gin clear waters. It has been stocked with brown trout for your fishing pleasure. At its deepest, it runs 17 feet, and the perimeter has been landscaped with spruce trees, shrubs and wildflowers. For the water-enthusiasts, a rowboat, canoe and cedar floating swim raft await. Or gather at the water’s edge around the firepit. Reflected in the pond’s surface are once again those stunning mountain views.
Fifteen minutes to Hunter Mountain and 25 minutes to Belleayre.
Note: The house and pond have not been child-proofed.
