Words play second fiddle to the images of Zubehaus, as the decor is so wonderfully, fabulously, colorfully explosive. If you feel like you’ve seen this home somewhere before, it appeared in The New York Times under the title A Weekend House that Pops with Color. The Slideshow is handy for showing pics of the property lush in summer, as well as the pool, which was under several inches of snow when we took the snaps below.
Into the living room with its wood ceiling, towering fireplace and panoramic view of lawn bordered by woodland. The bar with funky chunky barstools is sure to bring on a thirst, and there are enough seating areas to provide guests with plenty of lounging options, not to mention those on the wraparound deck in summer.
Two guest bedrooms, one with a set of bunk beds, and one with a full size bed, are on the same corridor as a clean white bathroom with two sinks and a tub/shower. Further down that corridor, which zigs then zags, you arrive in the roomy master suite, which enjoys its own door to the deck, a bank of large windows, and a luxuriously modern bathroom with walk-in shower sporting two shower heads. (Note the artwork behind the bed, from our own Trey Speegle, owner of The Barn, another great Red Cottage rental.)
But wait, there’s more! A short staircase with a bannister coated in wild red paint leads to a cavernous downstairs space, replete with a TV/games room that includes a foosball table. The fourth bedroom is large, and has the choice of two downstairs bathrooms, one with a retro tub, the other with a modern shower.
In more accommodating weather (and in winter for that matter) the built-in gas grill is conveniently located near the kitchen, and a heated pool with colorful seating (of course) is a focal point of activity.
